Who we are:
Northern Illusion was founded by Brenda Douglass, Chad Douglass, and Shekhar Nepal, three individuals brought together by a shared respect for the plant and a belief that cultivation is both a craft and a culture.
Brenda and Chad are creative, out-of-the-box thinkers who built their roots through operating a hydroponics store serving as a hub for local growers. Known for their deep hands-on knowledge of hydroponic systems and cannabis cultivation, they have always prioritized education, accessibility, and community. Their approach is simple. Grow with intention. Share knowledge freely. Help others succeed. For them, cannabis has always been about sharing their knowledge and empowering people to grow better, together.
Through their work in hydroponics, they met Shekhar, whose relationship with cannabis carries a rich cultural and historical depth. Originally from Nepal, Shekhar brings a lifelong connection to the plant shaped by tradition, reverence, and lived experience. What began as a professional relationship quickly evolved into a strong partnership built on trust, shared values, and a mutual vision for what cannabis can represent when treated with respect.

Together, the founders of Northern Illusion blend technical expertise with creativity. Northern Illusion exists as a space that honors the plant’s past while cultivating its future. Reflecting our belief that cannabis should be approached with curiosity, creativity, and care.
Our team wouldn’t be complete without Dibby, the shop’s unofficial mascot and resident grumpy old man. Beloved by the team and described by Brenda as having “strong opinions and zero patience,” Dibby brings balance to the team, reminding everyone to slow down, stay grounded, and maybe take a nap in the sun.
At Northern Illusion, cannabis is more than a product. It is a shared experience rooted in knowledge, creativity, and community.

Education:
What is THC, THCA and CBD?

THC: When people think of cannabis, they generally are referring to THC which is the cannabinoid that makes you feel euphoric or ‘high’. The THC percentage shown on a cannabis testing label is the percentage of THC compared to other terpenes and cannabinoids, and not the total THC amount in that strain.
THCA is a naturally occurring acid that has no intoxicating effects until it’s heated (and then it turns until THC). The percentage value of THCA on a label represents the amount of THCA present. THCA has many potential healing benefits for arthritis, chronic pain, fibromyalgia, and other ailments. While raw cannabis won’t leave you intoxicated, many people juice raw cannabis leaves for the many benefits found in THCA.
CBD is yet another cannabinoid found in the cannabis plant, and is the second most abundant after THC. CBD is non-intoxicating and has many potential therapeutic benefits such as anti-inflammatory, anti-anxiety, analgesic, and pain management. You will also find a CBD percentage on cannabis labels. If you want a CBD dominant product, look for products with low THC or ask one of our budtenders for help!
